A working or repairable machine may be of use to someone else. Even a broken machine can still return a considerable amount of plastic and metal to other consumer goods. In fact, those recyclable parts are so important that it is illegal in most areas to throw plastic machinery in a land fill or dump. A number of ways to recycle or find new uses for plastic machinery exist. In most cases, all it takes is a few phone calls and a little leg work to do your part to make the world a greener place.

Call the machine's manufacturer. A company may offer free pick-up of old, obsolete versions of its machinery for refurbishment or recycling upon delivery of a newer version. A company may even have a vendor arrangement so consumers to drop off old models for recycling with vendors of the company's machines.

Donate working plastic machinery to a charitable organization such as the Salvation Army.

Post ads for working or serviceable machinery. Even if the machine is obsolete or broken, someone may be interested in the parts. Include pictures, a full description and list the item as free for pick-up.

Call your city's recycling program to arrange pick up of plastic machinery. Many cities, but not all, offer pick up of large or machine recyclables on a certain day of the week.

Find a recycling center in your area that will accept plastic machinery. Your city's recycling program may be able to direct you to the appropriate recycling center. Or recycling sites such as Earth 911 will allow you to search for nearby recycling centers by the type of appliances that they accept.
